Metal hinged rectangular tin boxes are one of the most widely used precision metal containers in the packaging industry. Featuring high strength, corrosion resistance and recyclability of tinplate materials, paired with integrated hinged opening and closing structures, they are extensively applied in food packaging, cosmetic storage, cultural and creative gifts, medical consumables, hardware accessory storage and many other fields. Compared with ordinary plastic and paper packaging, metal tin boxes have core advantages of stable structure, strong sealing performance, reusability and zero environmental pollution. However, their production process is complicated with high requirements for process accuracy. It is necessary to strictly follow unified industry specifications, material standards, process guidelines and quality inspection systems to ensure product appearance consistency, structural stability and use safety. Under the background of standardized mass production and global trade, standardized production and compliant quality inspection serve as the core prerequisite for metal hinged rectangular tin boxes to control product quality, meet domestic and foreign market access standards and avoid trade risks. From a full-dimensional specification perspective, this paper systematically analyzes the material specifications, structural process standards, appearance printing norms, safety compliance requirements, finished product quality inspection criteria and warehousing and delivery specifications of such tin boxes, covering the whole process of production, inspection, acceptance and delivery, and providing standardized technical basis for industrial mass production, customized processing and cross-border trade.
Material specifications are the basic criteria for quality control of metal hinged rectangular tin boxes, and all mass-produced products must comply with general industrial standards for metal packaging materials to ensure material uniformity and safety. The industry-standard substrate is high-quality electroplated tinplate (SPTE), with the standard thickness strictly controlled within 0.21mm to 0.25mm and the tolerance error not exceeding ±0.02mm, which meets the structural strength requirements of conventional rectangular tin boxes and avoids deformation caused by thin materials and jamming caused by thick materials. For tin boxes used in food and medical contact scenarios, food-grade tinplate substrates must be adopted with non-toxic food-grade protective coatings sprayed on the inner wall, strictly complying with the EU 1935/2004 food contact material specification and US FDA 21 CFR 178.3297 safety standards to eliminate potential safety hazards such as heavy metal precipitation, residual odor and coating peeling. Ordinary rust-proof tinplate can be used for industrial storage tin boxes, but the substrate must be free of pinholes, rust spots and uneven thickness. Meanwhile, the materials must pass RoHS heavy metal detection, DGCCRF food safety detection and US 16 CFR 1700.20 packaging safety certification to prevent excessive harmful substances from the source and meet domestic and foreign environmental protection and safety access specifications.
Structural process specifications directly determine the opening and closing stability, structural durability and dimensional accuracy of hinged tin boxes, serving as the core control link in production and processing. Metal hinged rectangular tin boxes adopt integrated bent hinge structures instead of split welded structures. The process specifications require uniform hinge bending radian without cracking or hard folding marks, and the hinge connection gap is controlled within 0.1mm to ensure smooth opening and closing without jamming or offset loosening. In terms of dimensional accuracy, the dimensional tolerance of finished products is strictly limited to ±0.2mm, and the box squareness error does not exceed 0.3°, avoiding defective problems such as box skew, asymmetric corners and cover misalignment. The opening and closing durability must follow universal industrial test specifications. After 50 consecutive opening and closing tests, the hinges show no deformation, the tightness of cover fitting has no obvious change, and no shaking or loosening occurs, preventing hinge fracture and poor fitting during long-term use. All corners are fully rounded and passivated to eliminate sharp burrs and edges and ensure user safety. The box body joints are tightly pressed without warping, gaps or holes to meet basic sealing and storage requirements.
Appearance and printing process specifications are the core basis for standardized mass production and brand customization, unifying industrial appearance acceptance standards and avoiding mass production defects such as color difference. Plain tin boxes without printing have smooth and clean surfaces with uniform color, free of scratches, dents, stains, rust spots, coating bubbles and other appearance defects, with consistent overall gloss and no local brightness difference. Custom printed tin boxes adopt environmentally friendly water-based inks or UV curing inks, complying with BSCI production specifications and ISO 9001 quality management system requirements. The printed patterns and texts are clear and complete with accurate color registration, no misalignment, missing printing or blurring, and the color difference is controlled within the allowable industrial range to ensure uniform color consistency of products in the same batch. The surface film coating and glazing processes are uniform and flat without oil accumulation, particles or wrinkles. The film adhesion must pass the ASTM D3359 cross-cut test to prevent paint peeling, film shedding and scratching during transportation and use. Meanwhile, special processes such as embossing and debossing feature clear lines, uniform depth and regular edges without blurriness or incompleteness to guarantee product texture and brand display effect.
Safety and environmental compliance specifications are mandatory thresholds for metal hinged rectangular tin boxes to enter the market and circulate across borders, with exclusive compliance standards corresponding to different application scenarios. Tin boxes for packaging food, candies, tea and health products must strictly implement safety specifications for food contact materials. The inner coatings are non-toxic, tasteless and free of migratory harmful substances, passing authoritative food-grade safety tests to prevent substance precipitation at normal and high temperatures and ensure the safety of stored food. Tin boxes for medical supplies such as band-aids must meet the specification requirements of sterility, pollution resistance, corrosion resistance and easy cleaning, with antibacterial and corrosion-resistant surface coatings adapting to medical material storage standards. Industrial hardware storage tin boxes need to meet the specifications of rust prevention, corrosion resistance and pressure resistance. They pass the ASTM B117 salt spray test, with conventional painted tin boxes resisting salt spray for no less than 48 hours and high-end products up to 96 hours, effectively preventing rust and oxidation in humid environments. In terms of environmental protection, all product materials are recyclable and reusable without harmful additives, complying with global low-carbon environmental protection specifications and meeting the import environmental protection access requirements of the EU, North America and other regions.
Finished product quality inspection specifications are key links for controlling product yield and unifying acceptance standards, requiring strict sampling inspection and full-item performance verification. Conventional quality inspection is divided into appearance inspection, structural inspection and performance inspection. The appearance sampling ratio is no less than 3%, focusing on verifying dimensional tolerance, surface defects, printing accuracy and corner technology. Structural inspection tests the opening and closing fluency, hinge firmness, cover fitting tightness and squareness batch by batch. For performance inspection, batch products are sampled for pressure resistance test, drop test, coating adhesion test and odor test, verifying product damage resistance in accordance with ISTA 1A transportation standards to avoid deformation, damage and paint peeling during transportation. Qualified finished products must meet the acceptance criteria of no burrs, smooth opening and closing, good sealing, accurate dimensions and uniform appearance. All unqualified products are sorted and reworked uniformly, and defective products are prohibited from entering the market. Meanwhile, mass production batches are required to retain complete test reports and qualification certificates to realize traceable product quality, conforming to modern industrial standardized management requirements.
Packaging, delivery and warehousing specifications are important guarantees for ensuring finished product delivery quality and reducing transportation loss, forming a closed-loop full-process standardization system. Before packaging, finished products are individually film-coated to prevent surface scratching and dust contamination, placed neatly in boxes with buffer filling materials to avoid deformation and collision damage caused by transportation bumps. High-strength corrugated cartons are adopted for outer packaging with clear marks of product specifications, quantity, batch, production date and compliance certification information to meet trade traceability specifications. The warehousing environment is dry, ventilated and constant-temperature to prevent tin box rust and coating aging caused by humidity and high temperature, and the stacking height is strictly controlled to avoid deformation caused by heavy pressure. Cross-border delivery follows international trade packaging specifications with moisture-proof protection, meeting WTO sanitary and phytosanitary standards and sea transportation tolerance requirements to ensure no quality loss of products during long-distance transportation.
